A tarot spread for when you need to calm down

OVERSTIMULATED? UPSET? OVERWHELMED?

First, take a deep breath. This reading is meant to be done with the intention of “good news only” - set it for yourself whether aloud, mentally, or written on a piece of paper. This is your reading and you get to frame it so it supports you best!

Lay out all the cards in order. Close your eyes to center in on the moment and open yourself up to your intuition. If you don’t feel connected, wait until you’re calmer to read the carrds - they’ll always be there for you!

Flip over the cards in order:

Card One represents a lovely trait or part of yourself you can rest in. Something intrinsically special about yourself you can use to reorient.

Card Two represents a worry, task, issue, or problem to let go of (for now - if it’s really important, it will make itself known later; for now, put it down and rest).

Card Three represents something that’s hidden and needs to be soothed. What’s hiding behind the surface worry, chaos, anxiety, etc.? What’s key, is that this is not a five-alarm-issue, rather it’s something that can be gently held and calmed once seen and acknowledged.

Card Four represents something - a task, job, relationship, project, any area of your life - where you’re doing really well. How can this uplift the good in yourself and your life at this present moment?

Card Five represents something you can do right now to care for yourself. This is likely where the cards will get extremely practical. Did you pull The Star? Dip your toes in a body of water, whether it’s a bath or the stream in your neighborhood. Did you draw the Five of Pentacles? Find a way to make yourself warm and cozy, getting yourself out of the cold like the two main figures in the card.

When you’ve finished your reading, take a deep breath, a photo of the cards if you wish, and return them to the deck. This is a draw that’s meant to be quick and effective, not something to stress or linger over. Then, take a walk, wash your hands, drink some water, or do anything physical to reset and come back to normal life.

A Note on “Negative Cards”

Remember, in this reading there’s no bad news, so if you draw something like The Tower as “something you’re really good at” it’s going to be more along the lines of “you’re amazing in a crisis and incredibly resilient” rather than “your life is crumbling right now!!” See how you can find affirmation and strength in the cards. that appear more difficult at first impression.
